Life Groups

"Making followers of Jesus Christ committed to a life-long pursuit of loving God and loving people."

A life group is a small group of people who commit to invest in each other relationally to help each other love God and love people more fully. Most life groups gather weekly to pursue friendship, Bible study, prayer, accountability and encouragement. At VP life groups are also our best "front-line" system of care and support for people facing challenging times.  Basically, life groups are our primary means of adult disciple-making and spiritual formation.

Robert Mulholland defines spiritual formation as “the process of becoming  conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.”   We don't want to "do groups" simply for the sake of helping people experience community. We hope our groups experience community for the sake of participating in God’s kingdom work in the community!

We have almost forty active life groups at VP. To us they are missional communities, people seeking to be the church together during the week. We have almost three hundred people connected in life groups. We see them as individual missionaries to the local community, encouraged and equipped by their life group members to carry the word, life and deed of Jesus into the lives of those around them.

The writer of Hebrews implores us to encourage one another and to “let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…”  A life group spurs you on to love people, to do good to people and to live a life bigger than your own!
