What is VPM PBS KIDS Edcamp?

  • Edcamp is not a traditional conference. No keynote speaker, pre-arranged content or registration fee.
  • Edcamp is a local gathering of educators connecting through shared experiences and peer-led conversations with a PBS KIDS twist!
  • Edcamp is an opportunity for VPM to connect and reach deeper into our local early care community and help develop, strengthen and renew relationships with vital educational organizations in your community.
  • Edcamps recognizes the real need for strong peer-to-peer educator networks in early education. Educators of young children—whether they’re working in school districts, Head Start programs, child care centers or home based care, can feel isolated.
  • Edcamp provides early childhood educators with a space to connect, share similar challenges and concerns, learn new ideas, and get inspired.

VPM hosted its first in-person PBS KIDS Edcamp in July 2019, at the Sarah Garland Jones Center in the Church Hill area of Richmond. The event was extremely successful with a great turnout of early care educators and delicious food catered by The Front Porch Café.

“The day was filled with early care teachers eager to be there, hear about our PBS KIDS resources, and to share and learn from each other. I was thrilled with the flow of the day and how comfortable attendees were with sharing their needs and what works for them in their programs”, said Mary Jo Grieve, Director Early Childhood Education for VPM.

Karen Wells, Manager, Early Childhood Education, East End stated, “It was a great day for educators and caregivers to collaborate. It was wonderful to see the diversity of childcare providers and educators from throughout the metro area. Edcamp has an overall good feeling which seems to make professionals feel at ease with one another.”

“It was awesome! I enjoy sharing about my program and learning from others. Please let me know when you will be doing another one.”
