Richmond, Va. - Last month the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) held its 82nd Annual Summer Convention in Virginia Beach, Va. At its awards banquet on June 21, VAB recognized WCVE News (88.9 FM) with three awards.
WCVE News received First Place: Outstanding News Series for “Where We Live,” an ongoing series that looks at housing issues including policy, affordability, homelessness and segregation in the state capital.
“Our reporters put a lot of time and effort into our months-long housing series, and it feels good to be recognized for their hard work,” explains Bill Miller, Vice President and General Manager of WCVE Public Radio. “Housing availability is a crisis affecting citizens in Richmond, across Virginia, and nationwide, and we are committed to telling stories that bring the situation to light and help point to solutions.”
The station also took home Second Place awards in the Outstanding Newscast category, a testament both to the on-air hosts and the writing and production teams, and in the Outstanding Feature Reporting category for the “Virginia Currents” story “Virginia Firefighters Confront Depression, PTSD and Suicide by Protecting Their Own.”
