About the Event
VPM and Belltower Pictures will be presenting a special premiere screening of HEARD during the 2020 Virginia Film Festival. In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation, the 5-day festival has shifted to a primarily virtual format where audiences will be able to stream films, watch pre-recorded Q&As, and partake in virtual live events from the safety of their homes October 21 through October 25!
About the Film
News reports of America’s urban housing projects focus on violence, gangs and drugs. To most Americans, public housing and urban poverty are “issues” that remain out of sight and out of mind. HEARD captures the inspiring stories of four people who grew up in “the projects,” surviving and thriving in spite of… and often because of the challenges they’ve had to overcome. Now they’re giving back to their home communities... trying to make a better life for those who come behind.
Discussion with HEARD director, cinematographer and editor Martin Montgomery and principal storytellers in the film T.J. Thompson, Cotina Brake, Gwendolyn Harris, Demont Cosby and Von Johnson to follow.
Introduction by Mason Mills, VPM Executive Producer
HEARD will air November 12, at 9 PM on VPM PBS.
