About the Event

Out of caution and concern for the health of all potential attendees, the VPM and Tom Tom Festival screening of "Tightrope" has been postponed. Stay tuned for information about VPM event updates.

Join VPM in partnership with the Tom Tom Summit and Festival for a special screening of "Tightrope–Americans Reaching for Hope." The film will be followed by a discussion with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, moderated by Rishi Jaitly, CEO of Times Bridge and former Twitter and Google executive.

How did the idea of “rugged individualism” become a curse for everyday Americans? Distraught over the loss of too many childhood classmates, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn explore the causes and the costs of opioid addiction, poverty, and incarceration plaguing America, from the inner city to small towns like Kristof’s hometown of Yamhill, Oregon. While pockets of empathy and aid exist, are they enough to rescue the thousands of Americans in despair, for whom the American Dream of self-reliance is impossibly out of reach?

The film is a production of SHOW OF FORCE in association with VPM.
