Inspired by his uncle, Gallo started writing at the young age of 12. His captivating voice, realistic stories and lyrical content quickly made him a notable name in his city. With his unspoken yet stylish confidence, Gallo’s authenticity shines through effortlessly and is easily one of the many things that separates him from others in his genre.

No matter if it’s tour support for several of your favorite artists or co-headlining a tour of his own, Gallo has made his presence felt in Hip-Hop culture. His work ethic has lead to connections with some of the elites in the world of entertainment from music to sports. His pervious album “The Gallory” gained notoriety, which opened up his fan base to a higher level through events, merchandise and shows. So much so, that Gallo became an official member of Stalley’s Blue Collar Gang (BCG) imprint.

Now officially a member of BCG, Gallo is gearing up to release his newest body of work entitled “The Vantage Points”. With the assistance of producer IllMaestro, gritty and heavy 808 sounds,   Gallo touches on things like navigating traps of the fast life to key jewels about everything from women to ambition, all from different perspectives or better yet vantage points of the author. Together they combine for the perfect mix of A-list lyricism and top grade production that evolves right in front of you, and makes Gallo a prominent face in today’s culture of music.

With Mexican and Salvadoran roots in the San Gabriel Valley, east of Los Angeles, Garcia has spent the last few years creating a new, second family for herself within the welcoming community of Richmond, VA. This multicultural dichotomy shapes Cha Cha Palace , which finds Garcia confidently assembling a "mental scrapbook" of her journey for listeners, and for herself, all the while confronting a lifetime of feeling split between two identities. “ I grew up feeling embarrassed of my culture because it often made me feel like I stuck out in school. My dad would pick me up sometimes blasting Mexican banda music. My own lunch would embarrass me ,” she explains. “ When I got older I realized that these things are all a part of my identity and I should be proud of them. The things that felt like they were holding me back from being ‘a normal American kid’ are actually my power .”

Cha Cha Palace—produced by Eddie Prendergast and recorded at Spacebomb Studio and Virginia Moonwalker Studio in Richmond, VA—is the result of Garcia’s daily experience of finding her own sense of identity and place. Raised in a multigenerational, musical home (her grandmother, uncle, and aunt all sing traditional Mexican music, while her mother is a professional singer of mostly mariachi and Latin pop), Garcia’s various musical interests and influences are the foundation for her bold and buoyant sound—one that creates her own space by blending cultural traditions with contemporary and visionary styles. The past is always present within her songs, from “It Don’t Hinder Me” and “Jícama,” to her covers of the traditional Mexican folk song “Llorona” (on which she duets with her mother) and Jose Alfredo Jimenez’s “La Enorme Distancia,” here improvised by her grandmother and included as a vignette.

Cha Cha Palace has seen high acclaim from The New York Times, The LA Times, Rolling Stone, Vantiy Fair, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, an endorsement from President Obama and many more. The record is out now via Spacebomb Records.

VPM Music Series Brewer’s Sessions to Be Featured at Richmond International Film Festival

D Folks at Brewer's Sessions

Ajay Brewer is well-known for his community support in Richmond’s Manchester neighborhood, where he owns two restaurants and an art gallery. Brewer’s Cafe partners with local community leaders each month to present First Fridays Manchester, featuring live music and local artists lining 12th Street at Bainbridge, where his popular coffee shop is located.

It was only natural, then, that Brewer’s connections in the local art and music community would translate into Brewer’s Sessions,” a digital series produced in partnership with VPM, which showcases Richmond’s rich and varied music scene from behind the counter of Brewer’s Cafe.

This week, Brewer’s Sessions will be featured at two events in the Richmond International Film Festival. RIFF offers Brewer’s Sessions Live at The Diamond with TSoul performing on Friday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m., and two video screenings: one following Brewer’s Sessions Live at The Diamond; and the other as a part of RIFF’s Virginia Spotlight at The Byrd on Saturday, September 12, at 3:30 p.m.

“I am honored to be in this year's festival,” Brewer said. “I truly hope that it will help to put the Richmond music scene on the map!”

Steve Humble, VPM’s Chief Content Officer, shared his enthusiasm about VPM’s partnership with Brewer:  "Ajay Brewer is a force. He has done amazing things in the Manchester neighborhood with his coffee shop and art gallery. VPM cares about our community and connecting to the people and places that matter. Brewer’s Sessions is a chance to partner with a Richmond icon like Ajay and bring a new platform to local artists.”

The first two seasons of Brewer’s Sessions are available to stream on Spotify and to watch online at vpm.org/brewers-sessions. Season 3 is scheduled for release in late Fall.

The Richmond International Film Festival continues through Sunday, September 20th, featuring film, music, and art from all over the world. Social distancing is required for all in-person events, with online streaming also available.

THE BREW CREW

Ajay Brewer

Ajay Brewer, Executive Producer
A Richmond native who spent his twenties buying and selling stocks;  but through his passion for work, a desire for a legacy, and the birth of his son, Ajay unleashed a new kind of grind. And that's when Brewer's was born. Brewer's Cafe opened on Bainbridge Street in the Manchester neighborhood in October 2015. There, AJ, and friend Adam, who developed a love for coffee while in Australia, opened to serve up coffee and eats that are sophisticated, but never snobbish. From the beginning their goal has been to make the cafe a snapshot of what makes Richmond special: talent, diversity, and a welcoming, down-to-earth vibe.
