Baltimore-based jazz musician Todd Marcus will play with clarinetist Don Byron this Sunday evening at The Camel. Initially inspired by hearing recordings of Eric Dolphy, Marcus focuses primarly on the bass clarinet. In this segment, he discusses the challenges of playing his chosen instrument in a jazz context and how his Egyptian-American heritage informs his music. Included are selections from his recordings “Inheritance” and “Blues for Tahrir.”

Sunday night’s performance will feature Todd Marcus on bass clarinet, Don Byron on clarinet, Xavier Davis on piano, Eric Kennedy on drums and Jeff Reed on bass. Information and tickets for Todd Marcus can be found here.
