The Cypress String Quartet recently decided to disband after 20 years together. For their final recording project, the ensemble chose the two string sextets by Johannes Brahms. The quartets' members are Cecily Ward and Tom Stone (violins), Ethan Filner (viola) and Jennifer Kloetzel (cello). They are joined on this recording by longtime collaborators violist Barry Shiffman and cellist Zuill Bailey. For this final project, they performed live in front of a studio audience at Skywalker Sound Studio.

Cellist Jennifer Kloetzel spoke with me about this final recording and why they chose the Brahms sextets as opposed to the quartets.

Yours in good music,
