Clarinetist Anthony McGill Discusses "Winged Creatures," An Album with His Brother Flutist Demarre McGill
Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, recently released an album with his brother Demarre McGill, who serves as Principal Flute with the Seattle Symphony. The two returned to their childhood stomping grounds with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra to produce "Winged Creatures." The recording features world-premiere works by Michael Abels and Joel Puckett, written expressly for the McGills and the youth orchestra.
The McGills are among the few African-Americans who've held first-chair positions in major American orchestras. I had the pleasure of talking with Anthony about his exciting career and the production of this album. Enjoy our chat!
Yours in good music,
