VPM Forum: "Historian of America’s Ideas"

Ideas of the European Enlightenment had a major impact on early American culture and the ways in which Americans pursued happiness in their new nation. On this program, we hear from Caroline Winterer, a professor of history and American studies at Stanford University, where she specializes in the scientific ideas and Enlightenment attitudes that shaped this country. We asked Professor Winterer to discuss those ideas and ideals, and how they affected not only early America but our political and social lives today. She was in conversation with George Hammond, author of Conversations With Socrates.
