Video: Driver Hits Person in Lee Circle With Truck, Leaves Scene

A video obtained by VPM appears to show a truck driven into a protester near the Robert E. Lee monument in Richmond.

In the video, two protesters with bicycles confront a convoy of three trucks. The two protesters attempt to block the drivers with their bicycles before one truck speeds off and another drives directly at a protester. The person inside of the truck appears to hit the protester and then jump their vehicle up onto the curb of Lee Circle.

According to a statement from the Richmond Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 12:55 a.m. on Thursday. They say that a bicycle was hit by the vehicle, but there is no mention of the condition of the protester.

Officers responded to the scene and stopped each of the vehicles in separate locations.

“Multiple persons were detained, none with addresses in the City of Richmond,” a Richmond Police spokesperson said.

Richmond Police say officers discovered numerous assault rifles, ammunition and body armor in the vehicles.

One person was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In Virginia, that charge is a Class 6 Felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

Richmond Police detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
