A Citizens Agenda: What Would You Ask the Candidates?
What do you want the candidates to talk about as they compete for votes?
That’s the starting point for VPM’s election coverage this year. Instead of the horse race or reporting on opinion polls, we want to cover the things that matter to you.
To that end, we’ll develop a “citizens agenda” of questions and comments from our audience, through a survey we’re running from August 10 through September 7. We’ll publish that agenda and we'll put it to the candidates running for office.
This is part of an alternative model first developed by the Charlotte Observer and the Poynter Institute in 1992. It was proposed again by Jay Rosen, a professor of journalism at New York University, on election day in 2018.
If you want us to follow up with you, you can share more information with us, but it’s all optional. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
