Wittman Retains 1st District, But Williams Makes Strides

Vangie Williams

The first congressional district stretches from the DC suburbs to the Richmond suburbs, and into Northern Hampton Roads. Representative Rob Wittman has held the congressional seat since 2008.

Republican Rob Wittman, of Montross, won re-election with a solid 55 percent of the vote. His challenger, Vangie Williams’s 44 percent was the closest anyone has come to defeating him in his decade in Congress.

Mrs. Williams states how she will spend the day after the election. “I want to get out and get thank yous out and make sure everybody knows how much I appreciate them stepping up for me and voting,” Williams said.

In the senate race, Corey Stuart solidly won every Northern Neck County except Westmoreland, where he lost by less than two dozen votes.
