Virginia Commonwealth University has a new dean at its 20-year old experiment to have a satellite campus abroad.

He is Amir Berbic, a design expert who has worked in the United States, Europe and the Middle East and tomorrow becomes Dean of VCU’s School of the Arts in Qatar.

“VCUarts was the first school to set up a branch campus in Doha’s Education City over 20 years ago.”

Berbic says VCU arts Qatar is nimble, dynamic and experimental.

“It broadens its global reach and exposes VCU’s community in Richmond to new perspectives both academically but also socially and culturally.”

Qatar is a small, conservative Islamic country of 2.7 million in Western Asia, known for oil, natural gas, art and architecture and having the highest per-capita income in the world.
