Earlier this year, Richmond City Council established a Navy Hill Development Advisory Commission to vet the proposed $1.5 billion coliseum redevelopment deal. That commission will hold its first public work session on Saturday.

In total, the commission will hold six working meetings between now and December 16th. At these meetings, the nine commission members will hear presentations from city officials and other experts on the Navy Hill redevelopment. They’ll be tasked with analyzing the nearly 900 pages of documents that make up the proposal. It includes a $350 million public bond to pay for a new downtown arena and more $900 million in private investment around it.

John Gerner, the commission’s vice-chair, said the commission will also accept written comments from residents who can’t attend.

“For those that decide not to attend, they can email comments that will be distributed to our members and be part of the publicly available minutes of the meeting,” Gerner said.

Comments can be emailed to [email protected]. A name must be included.

Four additional public feedback meetings will be held in December in different areas of the city, but those have yet to be scheduled. The commission will produce a report on its findings by the end of the year.
