Volunteer Opportunities in Charlottesville

volunteerEvent Support

Engage with attendees at various VPM and partner events in the community focused on art/culture, science, education, and news/history. This could include interacting with guests, educational children’s activities, or event set-up/ flow. Duties vary with each event. Opportunities exist for both weeknights and weekends.

Events are a great way to introduce the many programs and resources VPM offers. By interacting with guests and sharing information, you help connect us with new and current audiences.

Volunteers Needed for VPM PBS Family Day on June 13, 2020
VPM PBS KidsVPM PBS Family Day is a free, fun, educational, and interactive experience for families in the Charlottesville community. It is VPM's largest and most impactful event of the year in Charlottesville. VPM and 25 + community partners work together to provide a wide variety of immersive hands-on activities. This year, we are thrilled to have Daniel Tiger and Cubby the VPM bear for visits and photo ops! We will also have free books, entertainment, magic, face painting, food trucks, and more! We are looking for help with a variety of different tasks, including set up/break down, hosting the Welcome Table, helping at the VPM Book Giveaway Table, or assisting with VPM hands-on activities.

Some of our many other events throughout the year include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Virginia Festival of the Book Event
  • Tom Tom Founders Festival – April
  • Charlottesville City Market - Summer
  • Virginia Film Festival - Fall
  • Charlottesville Grand Illumination - December

Make a difference in the life of a child by being a guest reader. VPM PBS hosts 'Reading in the Classroom," a VPM Early Childhood Education initiative, at preschool programs in Charlottesville City Schools. Reading sessions occur four times (November, December, February, March) while school is in session. After the session, children will get to take home a free copy of the book.
